Founded in 1996, KATCO Joint Venture LLP conducts exploration and mines the Muyunkum uranium deposits located in Southern Kazakhstan, about 300 km north of Shymkent. Participants are French State Company Orano (51%) and Kazakhstani National Company Kazatomprom (49%).

Started in 2005 with a few tons, the uranium industrial production has increased progressively to reach up a new record 4000 tons in 2013, with 4000 tons extracted. Thus, KATCO is the world’s largest uranium mine of its kind (ISR technique). In 2013, KATCO reached the annual production level of 4,000 tons of uranium.

KATCO, having experienced professional staff and applying high working and safety standards, is considered as forefront industrial model in the country and one of the largest and most successful enterprises on uranium production in the world. Mission of the company – to become the exemplary uranium mining enterprise for clients worldwide, working safely and steadily, thanks to employees and experience. With around 1,200 employees, KATCO is the largest employer in South Kazakhstan, particularly in the Sozak district.
